The prospect of playing a Blizzard RTS with a modern interface (Starcraft 2) is a bit more appealing than going back to Supreme Commander at this point.Įdit: there was a playermade AI that was a whole lot better than the default one. Sort of looking forward to Supreme Commander 2, but the timeframe-Spring 2010, is really, really bad if you're an RTS fan. You sound like someone that played the demo on a P4 against the computer (hint, all RTS AIs are bad in their own way unless they are from mod teams) and never played it again. It did take hardware to run properly and that could definitely be a pain if you had friends that were dirty poors on socket 939 system but still wanted to play the game. The art design for the game was, IMO, intentionally generic and most everyone played the game basically looking at NATO-styled unit icons and working with group selection and control groups from max zoom. The UI was fine (had plenty of hotkeys and inifite queueing was grand) if you weren't a dumbass and played with the default setting. Supreme Commander was a huge scale, macro management heavy game. Shockingly bad is something like Stormrise or Empire:TW.
